Mikel Beck yes. But i actually felt sorry for him compared to most others on the list.

he was just the wrong type of player for us at that time.

 

Just like asking best or sammon to do a Martin role.

But in reverse,

 

Beck was never going to be full of running or be a counter attacking threat who could get behind defenses.

I agree that savage played a huge role in turning around the club from the threat of div 1. He openly stated on Soccer AM that he was playing rubbish and deserved the wrath of the fans and that it was one of the toughest periods of his career. It took a lot to admit that but then he instilled a bit of fight into a completely beleaguered team. Add to this that he was always the first to appear anywhere for local charities and there was even a story about him picking up a stranded father and son from the side of the road on their way to a match, I for one am very happy he signed.....maybe given too much in wages, but looking back, I wouldn't change the signing.

Earnshaw has to be the definitive in disappointment. Record transfer fee, great record, absolute sausage.

McFarland, O'Hare, Nish, Rod Thomas.............no pace!

Hector, Durban, McGovern...................never won a header!

Gemmill, Carlin, Les Green................... midgets!

Rioch, Robson, Todd.......................all left foot!

Webster, Hinton, Newton................all right foot!

I've seen some bloody crap over the years!
