Refereeing Decision Explained, possibly.

Having looked at last night's highlights, the ref blows as the ball is about 4-6 yards from going in the goal. So why no advantage? Another poster mentioned the ref pointing towards the halfway line initially as if giving the goal.

I think he doesn't see the handball, his view is certainly hampered by players, but gives a free kick to them for Ward colliding with Camp, after the ball had ricocheted towards the goal. That's why he points towards the halfway line and doesn't play advantage.

I reckon the linesman who had a better view, tells him about the handball and he sends Camp off,

Just a theory.

Same ref that sent Fielding off after 90 seconds when we played the florists at home wasn't it?

RD commentators said they were not confident he'd get the big decisions right, he proved them right anyway.

I can't help but feel Bournemouth complained about it in hindsight. Eddie Howe going on about preferring to be 1-0 down and play 11 vs 11. I bet he wouldn't say that if they had grabbed a 0-0 draw, afterall they were playing a tough opponent away from home.

It's like us being away at Norwich and having the choice with 25 mins to go to be either 1-0 down or 0-0 with a man sent off.

Luckily we won't face many situations like that over the season, and if we somehow were fortunate because of it I don't think it somehow makes up for that ridiculous call at Burnley last season.

That's exactly what we discussed in the car coming home. It seems the only credible explanation given the ref's initial pointing.

Highly plausible the referee missed Camp making a blinding save with both hands, ball being 5"foot off ground and Camp actually (stupidly) trying to save ball with his hands

For that ref making such a mistake ..... Highly plausible

A prem ref making such an error would have at least conveyed his decision straight away. The ref just meandered around letting confusion build ...... If awarding free kick to derby and sending camp off, needed to do it straight away.

Delay in a ting is indeed likely he had awarded foul...Ward made life difficult for Camp to avoid a collision and taking a bash. Ward by turning his back on Camp was making sure he could avoid a foul being given against him.

He was ok overall, and despite a couple if odd decisions ( awarding foul against eustace stretching into a tackle and playing ball back to grant in second half springs to mind )

Maybe it's the late hour, but I'm confused by your point/view.

The ref had Ward and two adjacent defenders plus a midfield player between him and the handball.

He was in such a poor position I'm not convinced he would have been sure Camp was out of his area without the linesman's help.

Is that what he said?

They had 1 chance in 65(?) minutes and most their football was played between 2 cb's. And he'd rather Camp stay on and it be 1-0.

I know he talks nice and look friendly but he's a bit of a knob imo. His Burnley side put on the worst play acting performance I've ever seen in person. Last year he had the cheek to moan we had a soft free kick. Now he's moaning that his team wanted to be 1-0 down.

I know on Brighton's forum they had a whole thread on him. About how he plays pretty neat football and talks politely. But his football can be extremely cynical and his words are often at odds with the friendly way he puts them across.

I don't like the guy.

Bit like Chris Martin. Sound if he's on your side.

Read the last two lines of the second paragraph Boycie. Discuss your glasses prescription Boycie.

I came to the same conclusion as Sage and wrote something very similar on COYR yesterday, which I'm sure Sage couldn't have read as I'm positive that he is totally above plagiarism.

Craigs Byson and Forsyth opened a play area at Aston on Trent yesterday and I asked them what the ref said. Apparently he just apologised for making a mistake, but it was too late to change things.I got the feeling that they were being 'diplomatic'.

So why did he point to the halfway line if its a free kick to Bournemouth? I actually thought the free kick was for a foul on Ward, I didnt see the handball.

Because when you give a free kick you point in the direction you are giving it. Ie upfield for the team that has been fouled

I think he thought...."this game has been far too boring and no-one has noticed me....i'll blow my whistle, wave a red card, and strutt up and down for a bit........ooh thats better".

Just seen a couple of fans on a Bournemouth forum suggesting it was never a red card offence, that they should appeal the decision and that if anything it was a foul by Ward on Camp  .

Obviously Ward colliding with Camp after he had handballed it out of the area, supercedes the earlier offence. Dorset FA have different rules obviously.
