Day
Rams confirm arrival of Colin Gibson to work alongside club's media team. Derby County wishes to announce that former BBC Radio Derby journalist Colin Gibson has joined the club as a media consultant. Gibson, who retired from Radio Derby just over a year ago after 30 years of reporting on the Rams, takes up his new role this week. He will work alongside the club’s current media team in providing communication to both the local and national media, as well as the club’s supporters. If he knew about this (and surely he must) he shouldn't have gone on the phone in. He didn't really say a great deal anyway. Mumbled a bit, and then Owen cut him off. Stive Pesley
It is pretty baffling isn't it? The timing is surely more than just coincidence. What has he been doing since leaving Radio Derby a year ago? Given how well renowned he was for asking difficult questions of the club during his 30 years as a journalist, this seems a shrewd move by the club. The whole fanbase hear Colin's voice and associate it with the past 30 years of listening to him report on the club from an "independent" viewpoint. Do they simply see Colin as a way to make the spin more believable? What we really expect Colin to be saying right now is "what the hell is going on" – NOT framing the questions for Sam to get an easy ride. Remember hsi run-in with Savage? That sort of thing will never happen for a start.
